While You Enjoy the Games This Weekend…

April 9, 2009

…please keep in mind the players’ sacrifice.

Christians around the world will be celebrating one of their most important holidays of the year tomorrow (Good Friday).  On Sunday, the group of people will be celebrating their most important holiday (Easter).  For those celebrating the birth of their savior, possibly having a family dinner while watching a baseball game, professional athletes will instead take the field.

Playing on a religious holiday pretty can’t be avoided for many professional athletes.  Several Christian NFL and NBA players are scheduled to play on Christmas, and have to make changes to get together with their families.  Some Jewish MLB players are scheduled to play on Yom Kippur.  Some Muslim athletes are scheduled to play during Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

Please keep in mind that while you relax and praise during a high holiday, many athletes may not have the chance to do the same during such a special time.
